The brass sleeve purposely doesn't have a coating, so your Pen Type-B can develop its own unique patina over time as you handle your pen.
Titanium Pen Type-B is available with a matte black ceramic-polymer coating (Cerakote). The coating is durable, but over time it will wear to reveal the titanium underneath. We think it gives a kind of cool and rugged feel.
Pen Type-B in titanium weighs almost half the weight of its brass and stainless steel counterpart. It's got the hardness of stainless steel and the lightness of aluminum. That's really hard to beat. Titanium is the ultimate material. Both the sleeve and the pen are made of titanium.

Pen Type-B (along with all of our other pens) are manufactured at a multi-generation machine shop in Vermont. Each pen is carefully made above and beyond the necessary tolerances to ensure a perfect fit between the pen and the sleeve. It takes over 20 highly tuned operations to craft a Pen Type-B.
REFILLS
Pen Type-B ships with a Black Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.3mm cartridge.
To replace the ink cartridge, simply unscrew the back of the pen with a coin.
Hi Tec-C cartridges are available in 4 line widths and over 30 colors. You can also purchase refills here.

United Statesi use it every day. the cerakote is wearing, be mindful of that— but i’m sort of excited for the day it’s more silver than black. my go-to pen for everything. it is heavy which can get tiresome but you can always take the pen out of the sleeve and use it that way, too. beautiful tool and everyone i show it to loves it. keeping this for the grandchildren some day.

Overall, this is a great pen and I'm happy with my purchase. The two stars has more to do with customer support on a $200 pen. First, I wrote to them about ink and never heard back. If you are skilled at pen knowledge, you'll be fine but if you are spending a good chunk of change it helps to hear back and have questions answered in a timely manner. Second, as I placed my order I asked if the engraving is in ALL CAPS (the only way it is shown on the website) or if you can do lower and uppercase. If so, I wanted to change what I was having engraved. I never heard back so I assumed it would be all caps but it is not. The pen came and they gave me a minor refund but again for over $200 it would be nice to get support along those lines. So, I love the pen, and I am enjoying using it. But often when you pay premium for a product the support and help is better than it is with a cheaper option. That is not the case here but it's a pen, how much support do you really need? Not that much but there's room for improvement in that regard.

This pen is so awesome. I wanted a "nice" pen and wanted something that would last and stubbled on to CW&T. This pen is perfect. The weight is substantial enough (i got Matte Titanium), and everytime I pull it out or put it away and hear that "pop", it makes me smile. Excited to use this more and more!
